Rate and Write a Review Long before producers and agents were eating each other alive over the concept of "net versus gross," they were likely sharpening their incisors over Kate Mantilini's meatloaf and dry-aged T-bones. With a broad array of American comfort foods priced to make the price-conscious uncomfortable, Kate's opened in 1987 and has since become a Beverly Hills mainstay, serving everything from early-morning breakfast (starting at 7:30AM) to late-night supper (some evenings until 2AM). Expect a large quantity of options, from more traditional pasta, seafood and chicken dishes to aberrations such as frogs' legs or the "Wildly Wonderful Cannes Film Festival" salad with smoked salmon and creamy duck pate. Set in modern digs, it's not uncustomary to overhear industry executives ponder whose careers to make or break over corned beef and cabbage at Kate's. And if you have any doubt the food might not be worthy of a climax or two, consider that Michael Mann shot his climactic man-to-man between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in 'Heat' right in the middle of Kate's wide-open dining room.
