Rate and Write a Review For years, Joe's has not only been tagged Venice's coolest neighborhood hangout, but one of LA's best all-around restaurants. Owner and chef Joe Miller presides over a newly expanded kitchen that turns out tomato-and-fontina croque messieurs and other fresh Cali-French temptations. Gobble a grilled hanger steak with smashed Yukon potatoes, red onions and spinach salad, or scarf squid-ink tagliolini with Florida red shrimp and Maine diver scallops. The seafood selections grow even bolder at dinner, as roasted eastern monkfish with pancetta chips and fava beans swims alongside a perfect New Zealand red snapper. The seasonal prix-fixe alternative gives diners the chance to survey delicacies like yellow squash risotto, smoked lobster stew or poached wild salmon with baked roma tomatoes. Weekend brunch is a perennial favorite, but come nightfall, Joe's dims the lights for one of LA's sexiest dining vibes. Linger long in Joe's spacious new dining room, or hit the back patio, with its stately wooden trellis and waterfall fountain, for a few private moments. Absent all attitude and blessed with an able, courteous waitstaff, Joe's retains the mantle of favorite neighborhood nook.
