Located in the former Indiana Oxygen Company building, this Art-Deco Mediterranean is a refreshing change from the basic breadstick and tomato sauce-set. Owner Jeff Dunaway restored the building and rejuvinated Italian classics to suit a modern, dicerning diner. Although some of the touches are over the top (lion-headed soup tureens, anyone?), the menu implements simple and astoningly fresh ingredients. The well-heeled older couples that occupy the tables on any given weekend night rave about the Parmesan-crusted salmon and crab cakes with red bell pepper sauce. And if the food isn't enough to take their breath away, Dunaways offers up the moon and stars on the city's only rooftop terrace. For a less conspicuous celebration, private rooms are available.

Pricey, rude staff, SLOW
By denirai on 08/29/2007
Been there 2 times, the first was good. Not crowded at all either time ..... the second time the service was slow had to beg for everything, bread, drinks, check. The waiter did not return to our table so another waitress had to get us drinks!!! My stuffed chicken breast was absolutely the worst I have ever had, was supposed to be some fancy cheese filling... but it was really cream cheese.! Their excuse was, they had a new chef and the manager said "sorry we were really busy on the roof top, so Im sorry you had bad food and service.... please come back. " "Im sorry" doesnt cut it when you are spending that kind of money!!!!! I also had to stand in line to voice my complaints as there were others in line to complain in front of me!!!! The manager did NOTHING TO RESOLVE ANY OF THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS!!!! DONT GO!

Still Waiting......
By onebelopar on 08/09/2007
I've waited a while to post this review since I had already sent this establishment my concerns and have waited for months for a reply. Well....it hasn't happened so here we are. Over the Christmas holidays my husband and I took our son and daughter and son-in law to Dunaway's before the symphony. We were looking forward to dinner since lunch is usually decent. What a dismal experience it was. The restaurant was not busy, with maybe 5 full tables when we arrived. Once seated, we ordered drinks and wine, and once those glasses were empty were never asked again if we would like another despite repeated requests and attempts to find a manager that would attend. Like another poster we asked for continued bread service, but that request was ignored. Our dinner was abysmal. While my son-in-law enjoyed his steak, my $28 lobster ravioli was awful, four measly pre-packaged ravioli in a too tart off -flavored sauce. I tried in vain to get the attention of our server since the dish was inedible, but once the plates were on the table we never saw him again until he rudely threw the check on the table. Again - the dining room had only two more tables full and our server was assigned none of those at the time we were there. Needless to say, our almost $500 bill was paid with no additional tip for the server, nor will we spend another cent on this place. Service gets a zero, food barely rates better.

rude service & poor steaks
By bsusubs on 06/09/2007
My steak was poor to say the least and when i tried to get another the manager at the time told me that I did not know what I was talking about.. He did not handle it well and was clueless to boot. For the money i did not deserve the talk and i will never be back!

Wonderfully Romantic!
By spicrsmith on 03/18/2007
We couldn't get in to our "typical" restaurant on Valentine's Day so we tried out Dunaways. Absolutely incredible! We had a table in a romantic dim room with a fireplace and candlelit table. The food, service, and prices were amazing all on a busy night. We usually tip well (20%) but we actually left a little more than that because the server and cook were just top notch! We decided we may have to switch back and forth between Dunaways and our "other" restaurant...
