Black-Eyed Sally's introduced Hartford to a whole new world of barbecue when it opened its doors in 1995. The one thing Hartford was missing at the time was a true home-cooking barbecue and blues house. Well, Sally's met that need, and in the few short years it's been open, the place has doubled in size. The blues comes from both local and national talent. Wednesday through Saturday evenings, live music comes to Sally's, and frequent musical guests include Phil Guy, Johnny Rawls and Roy Roberts. Some nights are an open-mike jam, and on evenings when live entertainment has the night off, the well-stocked jukebox takes up the slack. The menu is certain to give you anything but the blues. Sally's ribs, pulled pork, andouille sausage and tender brisket are some of the best in town. You'll also find some of the best and most authentic Cajun dishes around, -- including blackened catfish, Louisiana gumbo and jambalaya. If you can possibly control yourself, save room for a piece of southern bourbon pecan pie. But it may be hard, as the large portions will challenge any appetite. Weather permitting, you can enjoy your dinner on Sally's patio. TIP: If you've got something on your mind, ask the bartender for a magic marker and leave your thoughts on the wall. If you have nothing on your mind, you can fill it with thoughts left by the patrons who came before you. -- Carl Salminen

Good food, Good entertainment

My fiance and i visited Sally's on Good Friday. This was actually our second time there. We were there about a month ago on a Friday night as well. The featured band was awesome! The bbq wings were succulent, the fried okra fresh and crispy. We wanted to try the ribs but decided to save them for our next visit, which might be tonight. we would have to say, it was the entertainment that brought us back. And on our second visit, we tried the food. Being new to the area we haven't been to too many other area establishments, but, we definitely recommend it!

Really enjoyed the blues open mic last night the last band to play a bunch of young guys called CHILLUM they were awsome and there's nothing funnier than watching old drunk women who think the can dance wiggle around in front of the stage a great time over all very comical

Jaimo Blue's Review

The food while simple has always been good here, but in the last year it has really reached new hights. I believe that this is due to a new Executive Chef. For whatever reason the food now ROCKS!

Meanwhile the music is excellent. Blues Review Magazine ("The Bible Of The Blues")named Sally's as one of "The Top Twenty Blues Clubs In The Country" and it is still earning its stripes Wednesday through Saturday with live national blues acts. Although Thursday's have begun to diversify a bit with some "Jam" bands.

This is a great place to go with friends or to take a date. Its clientele seems to be between 25-45 and is mellow(no fights, etc. Its a great place for a no hassle good time.
