Readers of Central PA magazine vote year after year for Alfred's as the top restaurant in several categories: best service, most romantic and overall favorite. Whether or not you agree with their accolades, you'd be hard-pressed to find another restaurant as carefully and elegantly decorated. Set in Middletown, one of the oldest suburbs of Harrisburg, this Victorian mansion is perfect for a romantic or special occasion. Much of the food is dramatically prepared tableside, from a simple Caesar salad to the Steak Diane. The house has lots of little nooks and alcoves, plus a snazzy turret for intimate dining. The eclectic menu mainly focuses on Northern Italian cuisine. Some local favorites include the Cannelloni Bolognese, which is created with crepes filled with tender veal, chicken and beef. And to make your Victorian dining experience complete, be sure to try dessert. The Sformato di Gelato, made of layers of ice cream, chocolate and nuts wrapped in pound cake will turn anybody into a romantic. -- Jason Burkhart

Have been to Alfred's many times and never have I or my guests been disappointed. The service, presentations and quality is beyond reproach. My personal favorites are the table side Ceasar Salad and of course Steak Diane, both are FANTASTIC.

Alfred's

My husband made reservations well in advance for Valentines day. When we where seated the tables where so close together that we could have joined the conversation at the next table. The service was excellent, however the food was fair. Since being there I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

Even on a Monday night, Alfred's Victorian pulled out all the stops to make our 30th anniversary dinner a truly memorable experience. I'd not been there in 36 years & my husband had never been there, so we weren't sure what to expect. But, to our delight, from the moment we entered, Alfred's service & wait staff treated us like royalty. Our reserved table in the little turret room was the perfect setting for our romantic tete-a-tete. Our server was pleasant, informative & professional; she allowed us precisely the right amount of time to linger over each delectable course. Appetizers of escargot & crab dip were perfect. The delicious seafood bisque for two was studded liberally w/large chunks of ocean jewels. Our chef's special of salad, gorgonzola, pecans & blueberries presented on a bed of garden fresh greens laced w/lemon poppyseed dressing was fantastic. Show stopping entrees of Steak Diane & Tournedos Imperial were both done to melt in the mouth perfection. Our adventure in this culinary wonderland was finished off with smooth, rich, coffee & superb desserts of Tira misu & Triple Chocoloate Louise - real palate pleasers! In every savory course, presentation was many notches above the expected. The plates were each dressed with fresh herbs complimentary to the item served. Before taking our keepsake photo, our server presented us with complimentatry Limoncello cordials..a perfect finish to a perfect evening. Our experience was by far the best we've ever had while dining out in Cental PA; we rate Alfred's 5 stars - it's a dining experience not to be missed.

Very Impressed

My ex-husband and I went to Alfred's for a romantic evening, and I got that and more. The food was wonderful, they even went out of their way to make our evening extra special. My ex had asked them if they could do a few things to make that evening extra special and without complaint they did just that. I would recommend Alfred's to any one that isn't afriad to spend a little more money for a wonderful evening.
