Raw Food and wet bread 04/08/2007

Everytime we go there, the food we order has not been cooked all the way through. It is usually still cold and raw on the inside. Also the bread often shows up to the table wet!! Everyone always raves about about how great this place is, but I have yet to understand why???

As good as the big cities 05/14/2004

The best restaurant in Hampton Roads. Always good food and service to match. Very accomodating. We need more restaurants like this in the area.

A Touch of Sophistication 02/12/2004

Entrance is not on W. main St but opposite the Nauticus. Had some problems finding it but when we did, found that the ambience was contemporary elegant, service was excellent as was the food.Seemed a bit pricey but will no doubt return. Next time will watch the booze to keep tab below $100. JTS

East Coast Diamond in the ruff 02/12/2004

I have the pleasure of reviewing restaurants all over the country, and I have to say that TJB is an absoult DIAMOND for the East Coast (not just Norfolk). This Chef is a Flavor Master. Presentation was well thought out, well executed and not over done. The rest. is beautiful, one would expect to leave through the revolving door and find yourself standing in Manhattan. I felt all the excitment waiting at the bar sipping on a house margarita with fresh pomgranate, what a refreshing twist! Once at my table, one of about 15 booths, the real service show began. Elegant but comfortable amuse to start and nothing but perfection on everyone of the following four courses. One major point to cover is the stunnig wine program, with a two story glasses in wine room that must house atleast 3000 bottles, which it has to in order to keep an amazing rich 700 plus wine list. I counted over a dozen diff. countries represented and a price range of $17.- over a thoussnd. Some wines with as many as ten vintages listed. Give me a corkscrew and lock the doors, I'll be in here for years! This is truely a rare find in the Gastronomic world!!!

All that glitters isn't gold 01/08/2004

This dining experience ranks as among one of the worst I've ever had. $320 bill for two including no eatable entree for myself. Unbeknownst to my wife and I, we were forced to pay 20% gratuity including two $90 bottles of wine and an unpalatable $38 "steak" (of which only one bite was taken). We also paid tax on the uneaten steak. The service was slow, the management was cavalier in attitude. Others left their steak uneaten and commented that the fish was gamy tasting. I'll give one star for appearance. When shal I go there again- quoth the Raven, Nevermore!

the good food id not enough to make up for the pretentious, unattentive service or for the arrogant sommelier that called on our table. Menu is way overpriced for the food quality

Definately a great experience from the Bar to the table service, from apettizer to dessert. Try the White truffle ravioli...its the best. This is a place we definately plan to frequent.

Disappointing Because....I had been there at the other location about a year and a half ago and I expected something different---and guess what??? The menu was the SAME!!!! The other disappointment was that they have replaced their plates with ridiculous BOWLS!!! I am sorry but, who really wants to eat tuna grilled OUT OF A BOWL??? The prices were as expected, the waiter was very nice, but come on, guys, get with it---it's not ALL THAT---
