The meat sauce is as close to being in Italy as any I have had. Veal is the specialty.

NO PLACE FOR YUPPIES 02/14/2007
I was a regular diner here for years, but have recently moved away. The wait staff treated my family & I like family. Free appetizers & even samples of their entrees were common place. I don't see how some of these reviews could be so wrong! The veal melts in your mouth with perfect seasoning. Spaghetti w/meatballs are always a winner. Andiamo's (battery acid sauce)gives me heartburn, every time. I really miss this place. Can't find any really good Italian in San Antonio. Cherish this place or it too, will be gone!

Highly Disappoitning 09/05/2006
Went the other day after seeing all kinds of reviews that were positive - and I liked the ambience and the service. And the bread was pretty good - soft enough for the kids but enough texture and integrity to satisfy people who like good bread. But then it was all downhill, the pasta not only didn't resemble al dente - is was limp and soggy. The special of the day Penne Arrabiatta was atrocious. A bland tomato sauce they just poured hot sauce on with canned mushrooms which should have been outlawed in restaurants years ago. The saddest point was the frozen green beans with my entree. They are 2 blocks from Eastern market and the chef could walk over and pick out a fresh vegetable - instead they serve green beans reminiscent of my middle school cafeteria. Ordered spaghetti with meatballs for the kids. Big Boy serves a better spaghetti .. and the meatballs were soft, mushy and bland. They may have better meat entree dishes, and perhaps we hit them on a bad day, but the pastas were horrible and even with good service and reasonable prices I was immensely disappointed. I have found far better Italian in Detroit, though most of it seems to be pretty expensive ... so the search continues.
"old time good" 08/21/2006
This is the oldest and best Italian "joint" in Detroit. Nothing fancy, but great. The veal tosca and the "hay and straw" are the best anywhere, bar none. It definately reminds you of days gone by. Everything is reasonably priced and they treat you like family. The Roma salad is so good, even my kids eat it. There is so much charm and a great place to celebrate special occasions.
