In the suburban land of Bloomfield, home to a mind-numbing collection of chain restaurants, it's refreshing to witness the longevity of exceptional haute cuisine. If you're scouting for the ultimate romantic dinner date locale, look no further than the Lark. The mere dozen or so tables overlook a lovely garden where many of the vegetables and herbs you'll be served were grown. A quick glance around the dining room will most likely produce glimpses of couples speaking in hushed tones, probably celebrating an anniversary. The fixed-price menu offers specialties such as rack of lamb marinated in lemon, honey and garlic and mixed seafood in a roasted red pepper sauce. And when you order the lamb, look for a recipe card that denotes how many have been served. Last we checked it was well over 15,000 -- not bad considering the restaurant opened in 1982. The award-winning global wine list stuns and delights at about 1,000 choices. Don't try getting a table "on a lark" at the Lark -- reservations are mandatory. -- Heidi Rehak Lovy
