Rate and Write a Review It's hard to replace a legend. In fact, it's probably impossible, and it's a good thing the architects of Comerica Park didn't try. It had to be a daunting task, replacing one of baseball's holiest of holy places -- Detroit's Tiger Stadium -- with a shiny, state-of-the-art park for the new millennium. But where the hallowed ground of Tiger stadium had its own appeal in the cramped restrooms, dingy concourses and beer- stained bleachers, Comerica Park pays homage to all of the traditions shrouding the rich heritage of Detroit Tigers baseball in stirring style. While the lower concourse is equipped with all the modern conveniences -- enticing eateries, traditional vending, shops and a Ferris wheel -- it is also a museum of sorts paying homage to legendary Tigers and legendary Tiger moments. From the statues of Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Hal Newhouser, Hank Greenberg and Charlie Geheringer to the Walk of Fame -- essentially a walking timeline spanning decades of legendary baseball -- fans will come away from the CoPa sensing a connection to sunny summer days past, present and future. Promotional events such as Friday night fireworks and kids' base running on Monday nights have brought in the fans, now all that's missing is the glory. We'll leave that up to the team. -- Brian C. Louwers Best Bet for Parking: While downtown Detroit can be somewhat imposing for visitors, those willing to venture a few blocks directly west of the stadium can find cheaper parking lots ($5-$10) and free, on-street parking behind the Fox Theatre and the Hockeytown Cafe. Best Ways to Get to the Park: Comerica Park is located on the east side of Woodward Avenue (just south of I-75) and parking is readily accessible via Woodward or I-75 (Grand River, exit 50). Many local eateries and pubs in the downtown area offer free shuttles to and from the park. Best Food at or Near the Park: The CoPa is a modern facility that offers great traditional stadium fare -- pizza, hotdogs and grilled sausage -- as well as barbecued entries at the Brushfire Grill. For something different before or after the game, sample the menu at the nearby Hockeytown Cafe on Woodward Avenue.
