Sure, you may prefer the atmosphere at Denver's more frou-frou restaurants, but when it's time to bring the kids along, you trade in the Prada mules for a pair of tennies and head to places like Joe's Crab Shack. It's a bit contrived and cluttered, but the seafood is fresh, the atmosphere is hopping and the waitstaff really wants you to have a good time. It's a tacky old restaurant decked out like a gulf coast fishing camp, where waiters dance on the tables and serve up gobs and gobs of crab. You sit at newspaper-lined tables with mallet in hand and crack away. We're talking Alaskan king crab, blue crab, Dungeness crab, snow crab and all of the other fruits of the sea you'd expect like gumbo, chowder and shrimp. The rug rat menu covers all of the kid food groups: chicken, hot dogs, pizza and shrimp. -- Ann Bender

EXCELLENT!
By ladyrainfb on 06/06/2005
My trip to Joe's was a treat - I had helped a friend and he said he would buy dinner - we were in Aurora, and decided to stop in at Joes since neither of us had been there before. WE WILL GO BACK!! - Our appetizer was HUGE! Didn't think we were going to have room for the main course! I had the Shrimp Gumbo - my friend was born and raised in the South and knows Southern food - The best gumbo either of us had ever had! The shrimp were HUGE! My friend had a lobster dish, and it was wonderful also. Our waitress was having a bad day, away from the table, but she NEVER let our drinks even get half empty. At the end of the meal my friend asked her to have the bartender make a special drink - she got the down correctly the first time, and even strained the drink (mixed with ice then poured into shot glasses) when he forgot to tell her to strain it. He said it was Perfect! Please note the posts about bad food are from several years ago! Don't know what my friend tipped, but it was WAY more than our Wonderful Waitress was expecting! We WILL go back! p.s. we had so much food we both had to take about half of our meals home to enjoy another day!

Good Stuff!

The first time that I went to Joe's Crab Shack I was so impressed! They have some of the best seafood in Denver. But the best part of Joe's is the service. My drink was never empty. It is the place to go if you want to have a great meal, great entertainment, and great service. The dances that the servers do are fantastic! I recommend it to anyone!

I Love Joe's Crab Shack!
By sarahbear33 on 04/10/2004
I go there all the time and love it there! The people who are saying that the food is distgusting are crazy, I grew up my whole life with real sea food and Joes know how to make it. I love the atmosphere, it is great, outside there may be picnic tables but there also tables and booths inside. The atmosphere is fantastic and tons of fun. And I should add that the service is wonderful and the waiters are very enjoyable. And I have tons of friends and family who can back me up!!!!!!!

If you like rubber seafood this is the place to go. The fried shrimp and clams are overcooked and taste like rubber, the sirloin steak looks like a McDonald's quarter pounder. The pictures on the menu are very deceiving, what you see and what you get are two different things.
