From the Editors
El Chap doesn't serve fancy food, just tasty, basic Mexican. There is no elegant decor or dress
code, although you are expected to behave
yourself. And this isn't a dance hall. In fact,
there are signs strictly forbidding dancing of
any sort. But, most of all, El Chap is definitely
something you should NOT miss. Back in the day --
"the day" being when LoDo was considered skid row -- the stage was graced
with big name stars. And the stage continues to
be lit up by more talent than you would expect.
Owner and music aficionado Jerry Krantz knows
jazz and certainly knows how to pack 'em in. If
you're going to hang out all night, make sure you
bring some dough -- there is a one-drink minimum
per set. Still, it's a bargain at twice the
price. And if you're digging the scene, but jazz
just ain't your thing, you can rack 'em up in the
pool room. -- Amy Lewis -- Amy Lewis (Photo: Konstantine Simakis)
