the best! plan to dine for hours with fabulous food
A Nice Place To Propose 10/12/2007
Good reviews from the Columbus Dispatch (as well as this site) helped me find Handke's and with a few exceptions, I had a spectacular experience. I went with a group of my friends and between the five of us we tried a little bit of everything from wine to dessert. It all ranged from 'pretty good' to 'fantastic' in both taste and presentation with one exception: I had a steak that seemed overtly dry and bland. However, I was sick recently before that evening so it might just have been my own inability to pick up on certain nuances worked into the dish. Regardless of any shortcomings the cuisine may or may not have had, the atmosphere was basically perfect. The place exuded so much old-world charm that one of our party actually gushed that her boyfriend 'had better propose to me here'. (Visit took place on a Saturday night in September)

Without a doubt, this is the best restaurant in Columbus. Intimate location, greeted by the chef's wife, occasional personal visit by chef himself all contribute to why you are there...the exquisite food. Set aside the proper amount of time to truly enjoy the fruits of Chef Handke's labors. You will not be disappointed.

Without questions one of the finest restaurants in Columbus and my personal favorite. Handke's focuses on the food which is refreshing. It is fantastic and worth the trip.

Treated poorly! 05/25/2002
My husband and I made reservations six weeks in advance to celebrate our anniversary. A few days before we were to dine at Handke's we received a call saying that they had a wedding party coming in and were unable to honor our reservations. I was most upset and asked to speak to Mr. Handke. I was told he would call me. This did not happen. I feel we were treated very discourteously and were offered nothing more than a curt apology for the inconvenience.

Set in a turn of the century wine cellar on Front Street in the brewry district, this place comes highly recommended by BAHyStyck. Chef Hartmut Handke is european trained a Master Chef who devises and oversees the creation of what I'd consider culinary perfection. Handke's Cuisine is a place for that special evening out....to take your best girl for a truly especiale occasion........ Extraordinarily romantic atmosphere, excellent fare, complimented by a world class wine list, presided over by Hartmut and his venerable mate Margot. You will not go wrong here...
