With his second restaurant venture, Shaw Dogan aims to introduce Chicagoans to fine-dining, Turkish-style. Turquoise Cafe, the American counterpart to his Turkey-based (yes, the country) Cheers, adds much needed color to a neighborhood crowded with bland restaurants. The exotic modern eatery showcases a decor of hard wood accents and various shades of turquoise. Though the menu dances with a long list of Turkish delights, diners will also find American, French and Italian cuisine here too. So in addition to Turkish spins on pasta, risotto and even osso bucco, guests may nosh on entrees such as sea bass cooked in sea salt, a Turkish fattoush salad, cold Turkish pizza (with ground beef and veggies) and the specialty, sogurme (smoked eggplant, olives, creamed yogurt, garlic, walnuts and roasted red peppers). Toast your table with a variety of Turkish libations, including the Turquoise martini, wine and beer. And after dinner, head to the lower level for contemporary and classic Middle Eastern music.
