Rate and Write a Review Greasy spoons and hole-in-the-wall taco or pizza joints aren't the only place you can satisfy those late night hunger pains. Tempo Cafe is a smart looking eatery in the heart of downtown Chicago that's open 24 hours a day -- so expect a long line after the bars close along Rush and Division. Inside the bright, airy dining room, honey-colored wood meets leather booths. In warm weather you can eat outside on a sidewalk patio lined with flower boxes. Tempo was once a coffee shop, but the Kontos family has expanded into a full-fledged cafe, featuring a menu of salads, light entrees, sandwiches (classic or deluxe), stir-fries, and seafood, meat and pasta dinners. But it's the breakfast foods that get the royal treatment here. The waffles, pancakes or french toast are made fresh, and there are more than 25 three-egg omelets to select from. Want to be loyal to Chicago? Try the State Street omelet with broccoli, ham, mushroom and tomato.
