This Far North Side Mexican joint is the second one and an ambitious project in an area that's not exactly ''restaurant row.'' Taqueria la Oaxaquena, specializing in cuisine from the southern region of Oaxaca, Mexico, is a colorful little spot --without going over the top. The cheery room seats about 45 patrons and offers diners a rare taste of this little-known region. Ethnic artwork and decorations brighten up the room. The menu also takes guests on a wild ride through the land, with such unique offerings as grilled cactus with onions and jalapenos, a succulent rabbit ''Adobado style'' and red snapper served in a memorable garlic and onion tomato sauce. Now, if you're truly adventurous, dig right into Taqueria la Oaxaquena's specialty entrees: tamales, enchiladas, tacos and grilled chicken drizzled with a thick, chocolate mole. Margaritas are a specialty, of course, but so too are pina coladas. The original restaurant is located at 3382 N. Milwaukee Ave.
