David Richards lives out his wildest chocolate fantasies at his stylish Lincoln Park eatery. The self-proclaimed chocolate addict and owner/chef of Sweet & Savories designed the concept with the sweet stuff in mind, from the milk-chocolate hued walls to the European vintage chocolate posters to, of course, the desserts. The chocolate dining room, which accommodates around 50 diners, is set off by pink silk drapes and pink lampshades adorning antique chandeliers. The former owner of two New York hot spots (Bar Blu and Restaurant Bia) and former chef at Evanston's popular Chef Station restaurant takes a plunge in the Chicago dining scene with a menu that explores the sweet and the savory. The ''sweet'' menu offers more than 20 desserts, and guests may even order a degustation menu that includes at least six sweet treats. Favorites include the warm fondant chocolate cake (with melted milk chocolate sauce, chocolate sorbet on the side and crispy fried cocoa spaghetti), creme brulee with Tahitian vanilla beans and a truffle plate (with three flavorful options such as lavender, cinnamon or passion fruit). The ''savory'' menu features contemporary American cuisine with French influences, including a daily risotto (duck and blueberry, asparagus or carnaroli) and a Kobe beef hamburger (with foie gras pate, truffle mayonnaise, curly endive and Asiago cheese on a brioche roll). Want more of the sweet stuff? Head here daily for the formal tea (Tues.-Fri. 2-4PM) that includes organic teas, truffles, scones and more. Reservations required; $20 per person.

Worst Service Ever
By linhmy07 on 04/11/2007
I just had dinner at Sweets and Savories with my girlfriend. We had the worst service ever!!! This bald waiter had no customer service skills. He just asked us what we wanted and we had to ask him if there was any specials. He looked at us like we were asking a crazy question. He hesitantly said that the Kobe beef burger is the special, which was on the menu already. We later figured out that the burger was $10 which he failed to mention. We then got our food in a few minutes which tasted good, but as we looked around, everyone had bread and butter. He obviously didn't think we were important enough to get some free bread. He was rude to other tables around us, It felt like he just wanted to make some fast money by rushing us out. I have never experinced anything like this before....not even at a fast food place. I usually am not a complainer but i had to open this account just to let people know what a horrific dining experience it was.

My guilty pleasure!

I am able to indulge every craving I have as a desert lover. David offers the most inventive and satisfying menu I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! One can not go wrong here. It is great for the first date, the second, and for the wedding rehersal dinner! I LOVE IT!!!
