The Japanese word 'wabi' translates as 'quiet' or 'tranquil,' but don't go expecting silent nights at this stylish sushi spot in the heart of Randolph Street's restaurant row. It's a tiny, minimalistic joint, with about 12 tables (reservations recommended) and seating for 12 at the sushi bar (first come, first serve). But what sets Sushi Wabi apart from the other sushi restaurants--and there are many in the city--is its oh-so-chic approach to dining. In the vein of the area's other restaurants (Blackbird, Vivo, Marche, Red Light), Sushi Wabi's atmosphere feels clubby and high-stylin', yet the food is refreshingly simplistic. The room is always abuzz with talk about what's hot, who's hot--and what's not. And even those dropping by to pick up their carry-out orders feel compelled to dress to the nines. The sushi, of course, is always fresh and artfully created. Didn't make your reservation? It doesn't matter if it's Monday or Saturday, you'll wait awhile, especially on weekends when DJs provide the entertainment. DJs Hide, Josh Deep, Mike Pugh, Lu Dubin, Algae, Striz spin house, techno, downtempo hip-hop and acid jazz.

Walked into what I thought was a little whole in the wall and enjoyed some of the best sushi I've ever had. The restaurant was packed (Thursday night) but the hostess and bartender made you feel special. Super laid back atmosphere!
