Former La Tache sous chef Stephanie Izard turns former breakfast nook Glory into an after-five eatery. Scylla, a seafood restaurant with French and Italian influences, aims to be an unpretentious dining destination. This former two-story Bucktown home has been skillfully converted into a cozy spot -- Scylla picked up from where Glory left off --where guests are made to feel as though they've escaped the bustling metropolis. The vibe carries over into the interior, which includes warm burnt orange colors, deep mahogany accents, hardwood floors and exposed brick walls. Art nouveau influences and contemporary instrumental jazz also play an important role in setting Scylla's tone. Izard's menu embraces the theme with entrees such as sauteed Diver scallops served over fois gras with mushroom-filled ravioli and a balsamic orange sauce; brandade-crusted halibut served with wild mushrooms, brussel sprouts and tart cherries; and sauteed monkfish liver in saor (red-wine based sweet and sour sauce) with currants and pine nuts. For those waiting to be seated, a cushy lounge is on the upper level with low-slung couches and a tiny bar. Global wine list; 30 whites, 20 reds.

Perfect!

I'm not a "foodie", but my wife and best friend from NYC are. This was recommended to us, and I see why, everyone loved it! Everything we ordered was sensational. The others felt that my sea bass and crab dish was the best of any we had (also skate wing and monkfish), and I wouldn't disagree. But it was a photo finish. The desserts (my specialty) matched the entrees. My chocolate concoction with espresso ice cream provided plenty of cocoa nuances. It wasn't heavy to leave you bogged down, but perfectly satiated this chocola-connoisseur. Cozy, yet comfy and inviting ambiance. If I'm moved write about food, it had to be great. And our server Sharon wins six stars out of five!

My husband and I had a very pleasant dining experience at this new restaurant. Service was excellent, and the space is small but doesn't feel cramped, at least not on the second floor. Two types of bread was served: one whole wheat with olices and the other multigrain. The only problem with the bread was how delicious they both where! The wine list is ecclectic with the owner selecting smaller vineyards from all over the world offering you the opportunity to try wines you wouldn't find at larger establishments. The wines by the glass were plentiful, including a longer than usual list of beers, and the prices where very reasonable. We both enjoyed the squid salad. The entrees where well sized, just enough food so that you could finish and still have room for dessert. We both had fish but there were enough other choices that were tempting as well. The dessert menu was innovative without the odd combinations of ingredients that you see to often these days. My chocolate panna cotta with clementine sorbet, and my husband's chocolate cake were, again, sized to finish on your own or share. With a little tweaking this restaurant could earn five stars. The table we had was wobbly, and a staff member corrected it quickly but as soon as we moved the table slightly it wobbled again. Lighting, well, even our waiter had trouble reading the menu with it's fine print. Also, as far as we could tell there's only one restroom: guests had to line up, in a very small space to start with, some going back to their table before reaching the beginning of the line. All in all, our expectations were met and exceeded at Scylla: we're definitely coming back soon!
