Brad Young and Billy Dec, nightlife kingpins and founders of Rockit Ranch Productions, are at the helm of this ambitious project. Part restaurant, part nightclub, Rockit aims to be the Next Big Thing. With an interior-design concept by Oprah's style icon Nate Berkus to cuisine by executive hef James Gottwald, this multi-level River North nightspot certainly has some big names involved. Berkus has maintained the essence of this former industrial warehouse by polishing the original exposed beams and touching up the natural brick and 75-foot skylight. He's added his own modern touches; handmade leather and steel chairs, whimsical fixtures and metal sculptures created by local artists adorn the space. Gottwald's moderately priced, yet ambitious menu puts an inventive spin on classic grill items, including the Kobe beef burger with foie gras, black truffles and sweet and sour onions. Nightlife touches include a state-of-the-art sound system where DJs will spin nightly, custom-designed pool tables, flat-screen plasma televisions and plenty of lush lounge furniture. During warm weather, the outdoor sidewalk cafe accommodates up to 25.

Rockit hits or misses...
By CayennePapa on 05/16/2008
The Kobe Burger served with Truffle Fries is very good - as it should be at $20 a pop... (I know this is off point: but had their Lobster Burger twice now : once it was very very good and once it was fair-to-middling...) The servers/service IS consistently good - but the whole vibe is too trendy and young for us over 35 types...
