This longtime breakfast nook proves that it's not all glam and glitz in the Gold Coast. The Original Pancake House -- right around the corner from Gibson's, The Whiskey Bar and Tavern on Rush -- is a breath of fresh air in an area where the average meal is $60. All-American breakfast and lunch items are served in a cheery, diner-style setting. The no-frills atmosphere attracts all the movers and shakers in the neighborhood looking for a nice, casual meal. There's no trendy music or staff, the walls are filled with nondescript photos and paintings, and it's an ideal place to take children. Egg dishes, pancakes (there's potato, Georgia pecan, banana, bacon, chocolate chip, Hawaiian, strawberry, wheat germ and the famous Apple), waffles (dripping with your favorite toppings), and pastries are served all day long, but if you're not in a breakfast mood, order from the lunch menu. -- Audarshia Townsend
