Think bright and cheery -- with a little funk tossed in for good measure. At Orange, the hip breakfast and lunch joint in Lakeview, early risers get more than just the average pancakes, omelets and waffles. From the famous jelly doughnut pancakes to the piping-hot, citrus-flavored coffee, Orange experiments with unique pairings that should get your juices flowing. Other recommendations include the grilled cheese (piled high with bacon, if you want), a number of vegetarian-friendly dishes, and the Frushi, 'fruit-based sushi.' If that doesn't do it, the atmosphere most certainly will. Filled with eye-catching paintings from local artists and the clatter of conversations and constant churning from the electric juicer, Orange is popular with young and trendy area residents and workers. To nab a seat immediately, however, either come early on the weekends (we're talking 8AM), or make a go for it during the week. Capacity is only about 50, and service can sometimes run slow.

Orange - Some of the worst food in town
By AliceGDelaney on 07/05/2008
My wife and I have visited Orange 6 or 7 times in the last month. Although we kept hoping based on your reviews and some friends who live in our building the food has consistently disappointed. The citrusy coffee is disagreeable in aroma and disgusting on the palate. The mix of citrus, bacon, and the general odor of fried foods pervades the air which is stale, still, and stifling. The owners need to learn how to open a window or two, or, at least, mechanically introduce fresh air into this horrid atmosphere. The food is pedestrian at best, but it is a step above Denny's and similar kinds of pretenders oo presenters of food stuffs; not real food.. My advice, stay away from Orange, because it is a serious lemon. A. G. Giguerre, Lincoln Park

Amazing Food and Atmosphere

I absolutely love this restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. My friend and I were actually just joking that we needed to fly to Chicago just for breakfast because it is that good! I would absolutely get the Green Eggs and Ham!

Not your avg breakfast spot

I've been to Orange a few times now and have never been disappointed. The Green Eggs and Ham is great as well as the Chocolate Raspberry pancakes! You can also mix your own choice of fruits for a deliciously blended juice. It's a Chicago must try!

Hands down the best...

My husband and I go to Orange several times each month and always bring friends and relatives when they visit. The Frushi is the best (get enough to share), but you must try the ham and cheese crepes! The pancake flights are always fun to read, if you're not up to trying out the unique combinations and the Chai French Toast is a great variation on a traditional comfort food. You'll wonder how you ever had it any other way before... Yum! I want to go there now!
