This is a Chicago favorite for one thing and one thing only -- the beef. One wall is filled with the famous people who have had one of the hand-carved sandwiches. In this small eatery a little removed from the rush of activity on Wells, you can eat standing at the counter, on stools under the wall of fame or at a counter facing out onto the street. Or, visit the "elegant dining room," which is actually -- contrary to the sign above the entrance -- just a nondescript room with a few picnic-style tables to handle the overflow lunch crowds that keep this place busy. You don't come here for the decor anyway. It's all about the Italian beef. You can even buy it by the pound if one sandwich isn't enough. It's easy to spot. Just look for the big, and completely unassuming, sign announcing the home of Mr. Beef.

Simply the Best Beef in town
By bkonk1 on 12/31/2006
A Hole in the wall establishment on N Orleans... I wouldn't even classify this as a restaurant but a quick-stop non-descript eatery. But if you like Beef Sandwitches...the BEST Damn Beef in Town. Many, Many celebs make this a "stop-of-choice" when in Chicago. I have heard Jay Leno mention "Mr Beef in Chicago" during his monolog on several occasions. In fact I was in line one day when a huge limo pulls up and jay himself got out....bought the six of us in line our beef & fries, had one himself and ordered up 10 pounds shipped back to his California home. Apparently Jay, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Jim Bellushi and many more are frequent visitors when in town...check out the Mr Beef wall of famous Beef lovers.
