A cavernous-but-packed restaurant in the heart of the diverse and affluent South Side neighborhood of Hyde Park, Medici on 57th is wildly popular with University of Chicago students -- especially when their parents are visiting. Even if you aren't from Hyde Park, this is the type of place where you are likely to run into at least one person you know. The high ceilings and cheerful Italian decor give the place a nice setting, though the atmosphere remains a bit loud for in- depth conversations. The food runs the gamut from American to Italian to Mexican, with hearty breakfasts that always seem to ease the effects of a hard night of partying. There's even a selection of quality veggie burgers and tofu entrees for the vegetarians. -- Kari Lydersen

It's a yuppy U of C hangout... food is just OK... should not be ranked as a Top Ten Burger joint... try the Frosted Mug 11611 S. Pulaski for a great "old time " burger

This institution has been around since our days in the 60's.

Not only is the food great and inovative, but the atmosphere is rustic 60's

The food is not always as good as the last time. Depending on the day and how busy the kitchen is it may be a great meal or just a so so snack.

Went twice. The first visit was a huge disappointment with poor service, improper food spacing, and dissapointing food.(Stay away from the salads). Since we love the Addison location we tried it again a few weeks later and received much improved service and excellent food(The relleno and enchiladas were great.) I think they are finding their groove!
