Lou Malnati started this pizza chain in north suburban Lincolnwood; now sons Rick and Marc preside over 15 restaurants. (There are two city locations -- River North and North Lawndale; suburban stores are in Lincolnwood, Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Buffalo Grove, Naperville, Wilmette, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, Highland Park, Park Ridge, Libertyville and Elmhurst.) This location near the United Center, conveniently just off the Eisenhower Expressway, opened in November 1995. It's unique because all profits from this location are reinvested in a community that hasn't had much else going for it until recently. Besides offering a nice place to eat, this Malnati's also hires local men who've been down on their luck and provides transitional housing upstairs for the homeless. In all, here's a special place to eat before a Bulls or Blackhawks game.
