Impress a colleague or prospective client with a lavish meal at this tasteful Asian-influenced eatery in River North. Named after head chef/owner Kevin Shikami, the cozy, chef-driven restaurant quietly holds its own on a block full of high-profile hot spots. From steakhouses Sullivan's and Ruth Chris' to the ultra-trendy Rockit and Vong, the area clearly caters to those looking for a little flash with their food. With Kevin, however, the climate is understated, offering diners a minimalist atmosphere to complement the cuisine. Brushed, muted tones, exposed brick walls and soft, semi-private booths add a level of comfort, while the music is downplayed in favor of conversation. You'll find Shikami's boldest touches on the menu, which changes daily. Some of his specialties include a pistachio-crusted red snapper and steamed crab wontons in ginger-orange sauce; a sauteed breast of duck and duck moo shu pancake in orange-star Anise sauce with roasted pear tart cherries; or the roasted tenderloin of beef in a red wine reduction with mushrooms, arugula and confit onion.

couldn't give it a full 5 stars because I only sat at the bar and had drinks and apps, but everything was wonderful...

A Quiet Gem in The City
By kanecatspaw on 02/12/2004
Kevin's on 9 W. Hubbard Street in Chicago has for two years been a delight to go to for dinner. I have now enjoyed them for lunch. The same attention to detail is found on their luncheon menu. What other restaurants have not come to grip with is the big turn off of walking thru a smokey bar or entry way that repulses ones taste buds for the delectibles that await you. Another plus is the quiet atmosphere in which to carry on a conversation that doesn't have to be turned into a yelling match or cupped ear. Alan and Kevin Shikami have created a superb atmosphere of ambiance whether for a special occasion, family get together or business meeting place. Their dessert chef creates ambrosia with every creation. This should be a definite must on everyones restaurant list. You have to come and experience this gem. I wish them nothing but the best for many years to come.

I hae eaten at most of the quality and shishee restaurants in chicago. this is one i would NEVER go back to. the service was extremely poor, the wine was very overpriced, the waiter and matre'd argued with me over the temperture of the white wine. when i spoke to the owner on the phone a few days later, he also argued with me. there are 50 other places to spend this kind of money and get quality creative dining in a more pleasant atmosphere with owners/hosts that are not rude
