Rate and Write a Review They've been quietly springing up around the Chicago area since 1999, but unlike most local chains, this Japanese-focused and family-owned eatery promotes a healthier menu. Kamehachi -- widely known as the city's first sushi bar -- opened in Old Town in the late 1960s, so this Wacker Drive address is long overdue. Designed as a lunch spot, this location features only 18 seats at street level, a view of the area's bustling Financial District activity and a limited menu of Kamehachi signature dishes. Menu highlights include the tri-color seaweed salad (with three varieties of crunchy sea vegetables with sesame dressing), Chicago Crazy roll (tuna, yellowtail, salmon, crab, cucumber, lettuce, masago), Green Turtle roll (eel and tempura crunch rolled outside with cooked shrimp and wasabi tobiko); and chicken, beef or salmon teriyaki. Many carryout customers choose to eat their food outside on the plaza during warm months. Other locations: Streeterville, River North, Lincolnshire and Northbrook.
