It doesn't matter what time of day or night it is, you can enjoy traditional comfort foods six days a week, 24 hours a day at Izola's. Owner-chef Izola White opened this home-style eatery nearly 50 years ago with two dining rooms and lots of character -- portraits of prominent local and national African-American heroes such as Harold Washington, the city's first black mayor, or Ray Charles are proudly displayed on the walls of this casual restaurant. If you want pancakes and eggs, Izola's has it. Those more in the mood for some catfish or baked chicken will find that on the menu too. All of it made the way White might do in her own home. If you don't have room for dessert, take home one of the whole baked pies for later.

Izola's Great Food & Service
By jaknox2 on 08/09/2006
Izola's is a wonderful place to go anytime of the day. I normally go during the daytime hours and it is refreshing to see Izola White very much in charge of the entire operation. She is a delightful person to talk to and her food is always served at the proper temperature, very appealing and enjoyable. It is nice to have a place to go that continues to be a favorite southside haunt.

A real Chicago kind of place
By rldjr1997 on 05/13/2006
I love to go to Izola's for the breakfast foods and the Sunday dinners. It's just like momma used to make, especially the peach cobbler. Izola's isn't just a great place to eat with holsum delicious home cooked meals, it's also a page out of the history of the south side. The late Harold Washington is rumored to have launched his candidacy for mayor at Izola's. The food's great, the ambience is steeped in old-Chicago. It's wonderful!
