The more opulent sister to the ever-popular Cheesecake Factory, the Grand Lux Cafe above the Ann Taylor store on Michigan Avenue is sure to become a tourist and local favorite. The Chicago location is the third Grand Lux in the country, with the flagship restaurant in Las Vegas and the second in Los Angeles. You will be amazed upon entering the grandiose lobby of the restaurant, which is accessible only from Ontario Street. A magnificent staircase leads up into the bar area where you may wait for a coveted window table. The "Michigan Room" looks out onto the Mag Mile, while the most popular "Rotunda Room" sits on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Ontario Street. A chandelier inspired by the artist Dale Chihuly hangs in this room, and ornate murals, velvety seats and marble floors make diners feel like royalty. But the beauty of the cafe is that it is still casual. The extensive menu includes everything from burgers and sandwiches to grilled Mahi Mahi. While the menu is not the same as Cheescake Factory's, lovers of the decadent desserts won't be disappointed, as several of the more popular cheesecake varieties are available by the slice. -- Emily Hiser

Weekend with the Girls + One

It was a great atmosphere and the music brought back my 80's memeories because there was a varied selection to it. We were treated well and I enjoyed the Thai Chicken Pizza. You must try the Lemon Cake

My Birthday let down
By pdhalfin on 08/19/2005
we went to the grand lux for my birthday lunch, my daughter and grandkids. The wait was long but I expected that. My problem was the service and the food, first the waiter could not wait to clean off our table, mind you the kids were not doing anything other than taking a long time to eat. My food was ok, but my daugher had a cheeseburger, which came without cheese, the meat was something other than the best which we were told by the waiter, they had the best hamburgers in the world. Not. We did tell him, he said he was sorry and a manager would stop by our table, never happened . I felt rushed, as I said earlier, he came by our table more than 5 times to see is he could clean it off, I read reviews on how this was a kid friendly resturant, I dont know exactly what that means. Oh maybe it means they let kids in because they certainly don't have a childrens menu ? Won't be back there again, not worth the trip should have listened to my grand daughter she said she wanted to go to "Chilils" Next time I will
