It's not hard to imagine famished factory workers of old Chicago getting off from the second or third shift and lining up to grab a bag full of just-fried jumbo shrimp or fish and chips at this shack. Although it will never end up on the cover of Architectural Digest, Goose Island Shrimp House has been reeling in the customers with its hand-breaded and deep-fried seafood for more than 30 years at the same spot. Choose from half to full pound orders of hot shrimp, oysters, fish chips, catfish or frog legs and pop the extra buck for homemade mild or spicy-hot cocktail sauce. You can get a pound of jumbo shrimp for $11.50 and a pound of fish chips costs an easy $4.50. Sides include fries, mushrooms and clam strips. It's strictly a cash and carry out operation but if you can't wait the friendly staff (some of whom have been there for a dozen years) will let you nosh at the small ledge. It's open until 4AM Tuesdays through Thursdays and until 5AM on Fridays and Saturdays.
