Isn't is nice to know that when the panic for pollo en mole sets in, El Presidente leads the Mexican food-needing nation to Ashland Avenue 24-seven? Time is not an issue for hung- over fools, pregnant women with a hankering for huevos rancheros, second shift working stiffs and all permutations of people in-between who can have their chorizo and eat it too at El Presidente Restaurant, a friendly place serving great Mexican food for more than a quarter-century. Sure, you've got your nachos, tacos, fajitas, burritos, enchiladas and tostadas but also steaming bowls of menudo (tripe pot stew said to relieve killer hangovers), comforting chilaquiles, tortilla strips and bits of chicken and egg sauteed in tomato sauce and topped with cheese and sour cream, homemade tamales and Mexican pepper steak blending juicy chunks of beef with pepper, onion and garlic in a mild or hot sauce. Opt for any of the combination plates if you're wearing elastic, but you'll save calories anyway since El Presidente doesn't have a bar.

Awsome Mexican Food
By cactus1946 on 01/05/2007
Having lived in this neighborhood all my life, and being 5th generation there, I am familiar with local restaurants. I love the food at El Presidente, it has an authenticity and taste that keeps you coming back. Having sampled Mexican food while traveling, I find that eating Mexican in Miami or LA just makes me appreciate what I had at home. Since we retired to our summer home in Southern Illinois, I savor our trips back home every couple of months, as we make sure we stop by our favorite eatery. I truly miss having the homemade tamales whenever I wanted, My husband has yet to find a burrito that measures up. The friendly neighborhood atmosphere was always there.
