All of the restaurants along Southport Avenue are south of Irving Park Road -- that is, except for Deleece. And to miss it would be a true shame. Sisters Lynn and Carol Wallack run the stylish, yet comfortable operation, with Lynn at the management helm and Carol leading the culinary efforts. The dining room has exposed brick and a fabulously large black and white photograph mural depicting a rather rambunctious dinner crowd in the very restaurant. This restaurant's more northlerly location on Southport also makes it more removed so you can enjoy a quiet meal eating al fresco on the sidewalk patio. Menu items are simple, yet wonderfully presented and well described by the knowledgeable wait staff. There are always unique specials, but constant favorites include black angel hair pasta with calamari, garlic and tomato in a lemon butter broth and the caramelized salmon served with Chinese black sticky rice. Weekend brunches are very popular with the lineup of frittatas and eggs Benedict variations, and the special quiches are well, simply "deleecious."

Service was reasonably prompt and courteous. We tried two of the brunch dishes; one was a fall special not on the menu. Both of us enjoyed the entrees, and my major complaint would be that the potatoes were too greasy, and the bread choices were not up to par with the entrees. Based on my experience with the brunch menu, I would be happy to go back for lunch or dinner, and to recommend it to others.

We liked the food very much. Pasta with seafood was very good as was chicken; bibb salad with blue cheese was wonderful. Desserts were terrific. Service was a bit slow but fine.
