Chef Didier Durand arrived in Chicago in 1986, but it was a decade later that he opened his own restaurant serving the cuisine of his homeland, France. Durand's experience working in kitchens on the French Riveria, the Alps, the Pyrenees, Belgium and French Caribbean all influence the menu offerings at Cyrano's Bistrot and Wine Bar. The restaurant stands out immediately; it's the only blue and burgundy building on the block. There's even a small sidewalk patio out front for warmer weather. The menu almost makes you forget you're in River North and not France. This restaurant is named after the large-nosed Cyrano de Bergerac, and with the tantalizing scents of French cuisine, you may be wishing you had a substantial schnoz, too. The rotisseries are a specialty here, and you can select from chicken, rabbit and duck roasted this way. There are more than 20 wines available by the glass and approximately 100 bottles, selected by co-proprietor Jamie Pellar, to choose from at this hospitable restaurant. -- Jenn Q. Goddu
