Costello has the feeling of an old-time New York deli, with bright, pleasantly garish, yellow-and-red paint and checkerboard patterns blanketing the walls and hand-painted chairs in bright greens, yellows and reds. The affordable deli selections include vegetarian goods such as baked-capreso and veggie wraps, as well as the usual offerings of Reubens, grinders and wraps with chicken, tuna and turkey. The cafe also specializes in sides, such as homemade macaroni and cheese and pineapple-tuna salad. A wide windowsill full of local papers, magazines and fliers, as well as a patio dining area, give Costello the feeling of a friendly, bohemian cafe where you can sit and chat for a few hours. The clientele tends toward the young, upscale residents of surrounding Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville.
