Take a break from shopping the Mag Mile with a quick, tasty meal at Flat Sammies. Operated by the omnipresent Lettuce Entertain You and located in the old Chicago Pumping Station, Flat Sammies is a welcome change from the chain eateries that dot Michigan Avenue. The restaurant's signature offering, the Flat Sammie, is a thick 'sammich' served on -- you guessed it -- flat bread and heated in an antique pizza oven. Sammie choices include Italian Beef, Tuna Melt, and the Chicken Pesto Sammie. Whichever you choose, be prepared for a filling meal. Flat Sammies also offers several flat bread pizzas that are far from Chicago style. The pizzas are thin, crunchy and loaded with fresh toppings. The menu is rounded out by some old-fashioned alternatives-- piping hot chili, big salads, crisp Kettle and Chili Cheese Chips and a large selection of tempting desserts. Order up, grab a table and wait for the friendly staff to bring out your order. Since Flat Sammies shares space with a Chicago Welcome Center, quiet meals are seldom possible, but the bustling atmosphere adds to the uniqueness of this one-of-a kind caf.
