Classic Mexican fare - with a few variations - highlights the menu at this modest, yet busy Lakeview storefront. And true to its name, Caliente serves up dishes with an extra dose of spice. Starters such as the red chile pork tamalitos (tamales), sirloin empanadas with garlic cheese and a corn cream soup with roasted red peppers set the stage for what's to come. The entrees, mostly enhanced by the freshly prepared moles and sauces, range from a citrus-marinated skirt steak served with salsa chipotle to braised pork with cactus. For more casual options, they've also included taquitos and enchiladas on the menu. Caliente aims to hover in the middle ground - the ideal balance between a fine-dining destination and a more laid-back taqueria. The neighborhood- and family-friendly eatery is only a few blocks from Wrigley Field. There's limited sidewalk seating as weather permits.
