More sweets emerge right off Addison Street as the second outpost of a classic ice cream shop sets up in Lakeview. But this Bobtail Soda Fountain takes a more contemporary approach than its predecessor as the decor appeals to the area's young professionals with small children. The space is three times the size of the original, with ample cafe-style seating, a cheery setting, large windows and wireless access (for the young at heart). Customers can order Bobtail's signature sundaes, milkshakes and smoothies, and sprinkle their favorite toppings, including Gummy bears, granola, rainbow sprinkles and fresh fruit. All ice cream is made at the original location (plans are in the works to bring some of the operations to this location in 2007). The cafe side continues to be a work in progress, featuring gourmet coffee and tea, pastries and a grilled cheese sandwich. The fresh goods arrive every morning from nearby bakeries Sweet Thang (quiche, danish, croissants, scones) and Little Miss Muffin (cookies, brownies). Pre-packaged coffee, tea and ice cream are also for sale.
