When it comes to sushi in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area, Mirai and Bob San (both on Division Street) dominate for upscale fare, but when you're looking for a deal, Blue Fin is in. Located off the busy intersection of North, Damen and Milwaukee, this hip blip draws a young, trendy crowd from the area and beyond. With seating for 25 at the sushi bar and 50 at tables, Blue Fin gets packed on the weekend with hungry patrons making this their first stop for the night. Favorites include the garlic golden shrimp (sauted shrimp smothered in a sweet Japanese egg yolk sauce), the dragon roll (cooked eel over shrimp tempura with avocado) and minted duck with shiitake mushrooms. Loud drum and bass and techno music blare from the speakers, so don't go expecting to get into deep conversations. The setting, however, is intimate as each close-knit table flickers with candlelight. Try the signature cocktail: the Bluefin Cosmo made with Peach infused vodka and ginger.

Small space with a simple, funky decor offset the creative sushi very well. Absolutely the best sushi that I have had in Chicago. Creative maki rolls wound with tofu and cucumber, fresh nigiri; I suggest the sushi combo, you'll love whatever you get. Delicious edimame, too! Also recommended: amazing strawberry ice cream wrapped in a strangely delicious rice paper pastry. Friendly, quick service.
