The spicy, mustard-fried catfish put this South Side soul food eatery on Chicago's culinary map, as it's a regular dish at the Taste of Chicago. And seeing how South Siders can't get enough of BJ's Market's specialty fish dish (as well as other entrees), owner John Meyer brings his second installation to the Beverly area. Located across the street from the popular Evergreen Plaza Shopping Mall, the restaurant, similar to its predecessor on Stony Island Avenue, attracts the after-church crowd, area workers and families. It's simply decorated with paintings by local African-American artists as the creative energy has been well spent in the kitchen. Customers may scoop up hearty, health-focused servings of turkey, baked chicken, barbecue spare ribs and other folksy faves during the brunch or lunch buffets. Side items include greens, dressing, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. For dessert, sample the banana pudding, sweet potato pie or peach cobbler.

Horrible Place
By celticred17 on 09/08/2004
This is a horrible place to eat. The food is horrible. The service is horrible. The theme of the place does not fit in with the neighborhood at all.
