Located in the former Harvest on Huron space, Allen's -- The New American Cafe touts itself as a "chef-centric" restaurant. Obviously, the restaurant bears his name, but additionally, proprietor and chef Allen Sternweiler plans to circulate throughout the restaurant during dining hours building a personal relationship with his customers. Don't be surprised if you call the restaurant and get him on the phone directly -- he is that much involved in the day-to-day operations. Formerly of Printer's Row and Harvest on Huron, Sternweiler is known for his wild game preparations and the new Allen's menu reflects that. Changing seasonally, the menu features entrees like prosciutto wrapped rabbit loin stuffed with rabbit sausage, smooth polenta, wilted escarole and dry vermouth jus, and a charred duck breast with Swiss chard and escargot risotto with port wine jus. Ask Sternweiler himself for assistance in selecting a wine from the extensive list, and if you want to bring a crowd, inquire about their large private dining space. -- Emily Hiser
