Strange that a bar named after a tropical island has no windows and no view. It doesnt really matter though: the good cheer and island concoctions are enough to keep you warm. Tile floors and bright Caribbean colors help offset the nondescript architecture and lack of windows, and in general everyone has a good time here.The Coconut Mug Club ties St. Maartens regular clientele together. Each member gets an engraved pewter mug that is chilled and filled with their favorite brew when they arrive. The mugs are kept hanging overhead so you can see who else belongs, and an online database helps keep track of Mug Club alumni. Since St. Maartens is on the UVA Corner, it gets its share of students; but hospital personnel and business people frequent it as well. The staff is as tight- knit as the customers. Each year, Linda, Jim, Jeff, Chris and the rest of the gang head down Hatteras Island for a rollicking group vacation, dragging along anyone who has the time and courage to join them. Kim Mattingly
