Just a skip down Broadway from Tufts University is Urban Gourmet, a tiny eatery that regularly becomes a surrogate home to college kids by serving up large portions of comfort food. Lunchtime finds familiar but fresh diner food like burgers, pastas and pizzas; dinner is a bit more complex, but no less comforting, with dishes such as pan-roasted cod and rosemary-and-garlic steak tips. You can get numerous pizzas and calzones -- let your imagination go wild by building your own sandwich. Or pick one of the specialty sandwiches, like ever-popular pesto chicken panini or pork adobo. There are a handful of tables for eating in, but Urban Gourmet does a booming takeout and delivery business. Why cook at home, when you can have a gourmet, home-style meal delivered there? Prices are certainly within a poor student's budget, with most entrees costing $10-$12.
