Tu y Yo is bright and charming, with lots of bright colors, Mexican art and sunlight. The overall effect is welcoming and comfortable. The menu is Mexican, with many familiar favorites and a few new ones. There are the usual tacos and quesadillas, but there are also sopes (deep-fried corn flour dough topped with beans, cheese, onions, salsa and your choice of meat or vegetable); gringas (flour tortillas stuffed with cheese and your choice of meat or vegetable); and alambre (melted cheese, onions, peppers, bacon and your choice of meat or vegetable, served with flour tortillas on the side). Special plates include chicken in orange and annatto sauce, marinated boneless pork loin in Mayan sauce, spaghetti in broccoli cream sauce, octopus sauteed in cilantro oil with vegetables and olives, and cactus in a chile-cascabel sauce with carrots. All special plates are served with rice and beans. The most expensive items on the menu are the seafood dishes, which cost about $14. Almost everything else costs less than $10. -- K.F. Murphy

The Real Real Thing
By sagemerlin on 05/22/2004
The only reasson I even know about Tu y Yo is that it is across the street from where I used to work, and sits next door to my friend's bicycle shop. Blink and you will miss the place, and that would be a shame, because the food is authentic, honest, and rightly proportioned but be forewarned: this isn't the Mexican food you are accustomed to. Tu y Yo serves home style Mexican food, the dishes you would actually get if you were invited over to someone's house for dinner. Whatever else you do....make sure you order the chicken soup because it is the best you will ever taste. We were in Mexico in January, and the first thing I did when we got home was to make a beeline to Tu y Yo to get some real Mexican food.
