Rate and Write a Review As befits a business model crafted by Buddhists, Trident Cafe and Booksellers fosters an atmosphere of maximum inclusiveness and minimal interference -- a policy that can doesn't always lead to conventionally good service. But if your idea of cafe culture doesn't demand a strict timetable, a window seat at Trident is the perfect place to while away the hours with a mocha latte and a selection of obscure titles from the well-stocked magazine section. This indie alternative to corporate megaliths like Borders and Barnes & Noble has been mining its bohemian vibe since the mid-1980s, staking a claim for individualism on chain-choked Newbury Street. From caffeinated Berklee students to overpierced skate punks, the cafe attracts a colorful cross-section of Back Bay denizens and weary shoppers. Catering to this congenial mix of patrons is a menu stocked with health-conscious comfort foods, including satisfying smoothies, traditional Tibetan momos and vegetarian options ranging from spinach portobello quesadillas to a dijon-slathered avocado Havarti melt. Of particular interest is the pleasing 'Perpetual Breakfast' menu -- a hit parade of breakfast staples (among them challah French toast, malted Belgian waffles and a migas burrito stuffed with huevos rancheros) available all day long.
