Established at the epicenter of the Newbury Street shopping thoroughfare, Stephanie's is a destination point for tourists as well as sidewalk-sightseeing locals. Crowds move from patio cafe to roaring fireplace with the seasons. The owner (guess what her name is) bills the food as "sophisticated comfort food," familiar classics made from scratch and served with style. The menu has an entire section dedicated to soothing bites like shepherd's pie (served in a roasted half squash), meatloaf and open-faced Thanksgiving sandwich. Stephanie's is popular for lunch and brunch, which is served in the lounge-like first-floor room. Nibble on gourmet salads, including grilled tenderloin salad with Dijon roasted potatoes and gorgonzola cheese, or sandwiches such as Cuban roasted pork, grilled chicken breast with basil mayonnaise and homemade egg salad on grilled brioche. Evening diners head to a second-story sky-lit dining room for hearty entrees like apple-cider glazed chicken, veal chop Milanese and macaroni and cheese. The sizeable wine list includes selections from Stephanie's own vineyards.

host/wait staff ruins your day
By sunpse on 09/30/2006
I had visited stephanies a few times with office frends whom are mostly caucasian, and the food and the experience was good. However, when I go back a couple more time with mostly asian friends and family, the waiting, the attitude of the host and wait staff were totally awful. Everyone else who came behind will get seat first, and everytime we ask the host, they will scoff at you. After finally getting a seat at a lousy table in the middle of their walkway in the back near the kitchen door, the arrogant attitude of the wait staff will totally help ruins your meal, and make you feel like a second class citizen. You can never get their attention, other than when they finally come around to take your order, and give you the check and rush you out the door. You can expect good food, but if you are not caucasian , this is the worst place you could have choose to go to in Boston. Complaint to management has been ignored!! Who do you think that pick the staff at stephanie!!

Bad Attitude ruins your visit!
By allcingi on 06/19/2006
When I first found this restaurant 5-6 years ago, it was from an invitation from my Caucasian friend. And, I loved the food the prices were right around $18-30. Since then I had a numerous trips to this place with different friends to introduce some decent meal on Newbury st. However, I have to strongly advise that this is definitely for the wasps at its worst that are eager to crush other customer’s mood by being loud and arrogant. But I have to address that the food and the waiting is excluded from my review as they are quite decent. But the management keeps upsetting me and other reviewers as you can see below. Here are my incidents with the Hosts; 1. racially biased and scoffing hosts, 2. strong preference of 20-30 some year old girls, with designer attires over casual dressers 3. Terrace table cover chargee $15 + 4. If you don't look waspy enough, they will not give the seat first or put you on the corner table after a long waiting4. 5. Arrogant Host/ess often scoffing at you if you have any complaint. 6. The restaurant's ownder is well-known for his Notorious TV Commercials for Medical Law Suits that shake the state government system. Jim Sokolove, and his wife's name is Stepahnie. 7. I left a complaint regarding these humiliating experiences over the years. But the owner never returned a call. If you are black, Latino, or Asian or older or not so wealthy looking, be prepared to be taken like secondary people. Even if we pay the same money and have same good expectation for good food and services, they will make you feel like an outsider, not a customer. Just sit, eat and leave. Or, walk away if any of them show a sign of arrogance as there will be no way to correct this arrogant management.
