It may sound odd, but if you're looking for some fine Asian dining, head over to Beacon Hill. Somewhere between Cambridge Street staples Sausage Guy and the Hill Tavern, you will find something out of the ordinary, Ma Soba. The pan-Asian establishment, with its elegant decor and polite staff, offers diners a plethora of noodles and other Asian dishes, and the sushi is arguably some of the freshest and best in town. The green bean, orange and lychee salad is a hit, as well as the spicy Tsao General chicken. The sushi and sashimi keep bringing locals back; the sashimi comes in thick cuts and the maki rolls are fresh. The choices range from your average California roll to the bold "Disco Shrimp." All ranges of sushi enthusiast will find a favorite here. Locals and staff from neighboring Government Center know the lunch secret: Ma Soba offers bargain combo plates during the day. The large front windows slide open in warm weather and parking across the street is validated to a reasonable $5.

Not the best in Boston
By jaybar187 on 08/29/2006
I'm not sure why they were voted number one in boston. Fugaku is 20 times better, and they are both around the same price. I've ben to Ma Soba twice and the Sushi is average. The service is ok, same with the decor. Everytime i go to Fugaku i'm amazed with the sushi. I've been to about 15-20 sushi resturants in Boston so i hope i know what im doing

The service was avg... the food, OMFG it was so F***ing nasty that I almost became bulimic. Who ever mixed cream cheese and sushi together should be X out of the world of curlinary arts. The only THING that was remotedly edible was the ginger, wasabi, and rice. The critic who reviewed this place must not have a single tastebudd left. Don't let the picture and the fluff trick you into going there... they use CANNED TUNA for their sushi (they call it "Abacore") Trust me... I had better food at the homeless shelter.
