Editor's Note: Jimmy's Harborside is closed for renovations and will reopen Spring 2008. It's said that sharks need to keep moving to stay alive, but the opposite formula applies to seafood institutions like Jimmy's Harborside. With its nautical murals and dated decor, this old-school establishment boasts the same salty vibe it was mining when Sinatra topped the charts. The interior is eclipsed by its stunning views of the Harbor and city skyline, which can be enjoyed from the deck in more temperate months. Even the ownership has remained static over the last several decades, with a third generation of the founding Doulos family recently emerging to take the helm.Though some dismiss it as an overrated tourist trap, Jimmy's keeps its clientele coming back by adhering to the basics that made its name back in the 1930s. Its claim to the title "Home of the Chowder King" is backed up by bountiful chowders featuring "creamy fish" and "New England style" clams, while those with a craving for fresh-off-the-boat seafood will find simply prepared options including scrod, Atlantic salmon, deep sea scallops and swordfish. The dish for which Jimmy's is justifiably famous is its finnan haddie, a traditional smoked salmon that is baked to perfection and set afloat in a sea of white wine cream sauce.

Boy has this place gone down-hill. Place was empty & the service was still s-l-o-w. Moderate food at high price. Don't bother.

A must

Add this one to your list of restaurants to see. If you have time for only one, put Jimmy's on the top of your list. Their fish chowder, clams casino, oysters on the half shell, broiled swordfish and lobsters are the best in town. The service is great and you can't beat the waterfront dining experience. In nice weather, the deck is a real treat. This is a family owned business that shouldn't be missed.

Lzamanian's Review

been to Jimmys about 6x this past year alone. After last trip, decided to start frequenting Anthonys Pier 4 instead. The hostess left us waiting for 50 minutes although we had a reservation. The food was slow in coming, and baked stuffed lobster dry. Finally, I attempted to use the downstairs bathroom, and although other women were in there, again the hostess bothered me, and said "Use the restroom upstairs, we're going to clean in here in a few minutes." Hello! Whatever happened to treating paying customers with dignity and respect? Her attitude alone left me cold, and I would not go back as a result. Smiles kindness, and apologies for the wait go along way people.

Went to Jimmy's last night and I can't understand what happened to the reviewer before me.I had a great time. I had the Yellow Fin tuna and my friend has halibut which was cooked to perfection. We sat on the deck for about an hour for cocktails and frankly I could have stayed there all night. We had some awesome oysters and mussels on the deck before we went inside. I thought the place was great and it seems that they are trying to rejuvenate the dining room. The waiter told me Jimmy's grandson is the chef now so maybe that's why is was so great. Anyway, it was a wonderful magical evening. Bon Appetit!!
