What began as a small sandwich cart in Downtown Crossing has become a religion among many of Boston's local workers, so much so that the cart has grown into a legitimate outdoor sandwich counter; a corresponding indoor eatery around the corner was added in 2006. In each location, daily crowds form, waiting to indulge in the one menu item offered. The item? A sandwich (and the restaurant's namesake) called the Chilean chacarero. The chacarero is a work of art: chicken or beef comes barbecued or in the form of tips, topped with Muenster cheese, spicy green beans, hot sauce, avocado and tomato. The bun is homemade and delicious - they sell the rolls separately for the serious addicts. And from what we can tell, that would include almost everybody who lunches here regularly. Tip: patronize the lunch counter before 11:30 or after 3pm to beat the inevitable line, or avoid them altogether by using their corporate catering service.

Chacarero is terrific. The bread is so fresh and the meat is so tender.. This is definitely a hidden jewel..
