Rate and Write a Review Americans consume an average of 60 hot dogs a year, and in Salem, Massachusetts, the Boston Hot Dog Co. lavishly contributes a good deal to that number by serving up dogs to hungry locals, tourists and Perry Mason types. Located in an old brick building about a block from a haunted cemetery and across the street from one of Salem's many courthouses (not associated with the witch trials), this little hot dog shop offers an almost endless menu with crazy-fun specials each month, such as the Halloweenie in October, a tasty combination that involves a hot dog dressed in orangey-red and black toppings; the turkey dog Gobbler in November with all the fixings, including stuffing and cranberry sauce; and the holiday-decked December Claus Dog, sprinkled with sweet red relish, shredded white cheddar and mozzarella. There's a dog for every taste -- veggie dogs, kids dog meals, Atkins dogs for the weight conscious -- you name it. All you have to decide is whether you want to eat in or take out. The Boston Hot Dog Co. also brings back a bit of nostalgia every week (or maybe it's called magic) in the Saturday Night Supper Special: two hot dogs on grilled buttered rolls, homemade baked beans and coleslaw for only $4.95.
