Step inside Blue Ribbon Bar-B-Q and you'll get a glimpse of the casual barbecue take-out places that dot the Southern states. Boston is sadly lacking in good barbecue, but this place does a good job of satisfying the cravings of those who can't make it south of the Mason-Dixon. Though the founders are Midwesterners who came to Boston by way of North Carolina, they're rather magnanimous in the regional styles of their offerings. Along with North Carolina pulled pork, you can try Texas beef brisket, Memphis ribs, Jamaican jerked chicken and even a much-touted barbecue burrito. The side dishes are available in bulk and not to be missed. Collard greens and black-eyed corn make excellent companions to a burnt-ends sandwich. Blue Ribbon does mostly takeout; it's a small room with minimal seating options that are frequently taken by people waiting for their to-go orders. The staff is patient, though -- channeling the Southern character of their fare -- and happy to help you decide upon a square meal.

I have never had a bad meal from Blue Ribbon! I have friends from the south that think they are as good as anything they've ever had.

Up with the legends
By stu100 on 02/05/2007
I often to Texas hill country; always stopping at Salt Lick in Driftwood and Coopers in Llano. Blue Ribbon is in their class. Last month business associates from Austin were up here and they were blown away. One actually called me after going home to praise BR. Another when meeting him in California 2weeks ago raved about BR on seeing me......

Just a lot of bad experiences
By rzapolin on 01/29/2007
We ate there and were very disappointed. We were at an outdoor table and the server said that would clean the spilled food slop off that table before our food arrived. They never did and we ended up having to clean our own table before we could put our food down there. The side dish one of us ordered was a salad made from wilted lettuce and other vegetables that looked like yesterdays leftovers. Portions were generous at a good price but the overall experience was like eating in a dump. There are enough decent barbecue places around here that we will never think of going back to this one.

Cloest Thing to Texas
By mecrnc on 12/21/2005
This place never disappoints! It has barbecue that is the closest to Texas one can get. Brisket is the best. Great sides and desserts. Very friendly staff that often knows patrons by name and remembers how they like their barbecue served. Recommend highly!
