From the Editors

The USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship in the world. Her history spans 200 years, ranges from fighting Barbary pirates on the shores of Tripoli to winning famous victories during the War of 1812, and is celebrated in its entirety in the USS Constitution Museum.

The frigate was dubbed Old Ironsides after it was noted that the few cannonballs that did manage to tag her hull simply bounced off and fell harmlessly into the water. The museum, located adjacent to the ship, lets you familiarize yourself with this curious phenomenon and offers up 3,000 original artifacts and pieces of artwork as well as a multitude of hands-on activities.

Hoist a sail, take the wheel, fire a cannon or swing in a sailor's hammock. Challenge a friend to a video battle or take on the computer yourself as Old Ironsides' commander. It's here and here alone that you'll be able to explore the ship's lower decks -- off limits to the public -- through a 10-minute, full-color video presentation. The museum also allows you to relive the inspiring story of America's undefeated champion through its logs, journals, charts and weapons as well as through the eyes of numerous artists who offer their own interpretations. It's an ideal place for patriots and history buffs to tickle their passions.

Excellent site. It's too bad that due to the current terrorist threat, the lower decks are now off limits.
